Beat the Burglar in Knowsley

There has been an increase in burglaries throughout the district recently and the vast majority of premises burgled have been targetted by the criminal because they have been left insecure,  particularly front doors.

Merseyside Police are warning residents that burglars will take advantage of the smallest opportunity - an unlocked door is an open invitation, so residents in Knowsley are being urged to ensure they lock their windows and doors securely.

Please click on the CRIME REDUCTION tab for advice concerning this and other types of crime

Don't forget if you have information regarding burglary in your area, contact Crimestoppers, anonymously,

Football scheme is secure

THE future of a football scheme that keeps more than 250 youngsters off the streets every week has been secured for at least another year.

The Kickz programme, backed by Everton FC, Liverpool FC, Merseyside police and the Football Foundation was launched on Merseyside last year.

Since then it has built up a following of more than 500 youngsters across Merseyside and attracts more than 250 children every week.

Of those, 14 of the older participants have undertaken refereeing courses and at least two have gone on to perform paid official roles.

Another 50 are now qualified junior football organisers and a further 15 have completed first aid training.

Merseyside Police Authority has now agreed to put aside nearly £25,000 to keep the scheme running throughout the 2008/09 season at the Anfield sports community centre and Heatwaves leisure centre, Stockbridge Village.

Police chiefs see the scheme as a good way of getting youngsters to turn their back on trouble and achieve something.

Knowsley Community Messaging

This site is intended to improve the information flow between the people of Knowsley and key partners such as the Police, Knowsley Council and others concerning matters of local concern in particular Crime & Disorder nature. There are also links to the public internet websites of relevant organisations.

Additionally there is a facility associated with the site which allows us to send, to people who have elected to receive them, messages relating to Crime Reduction,Trends, Alerts and events via email, phone (including mobiles) Text (SMS). You choose which way you want to receive them and they are all entirely FREE  to the person receiving them.

How do you let us know that you want to receive the messages ?

Simple, by either completing the online application form by clicking above or by completing a written application form which you can obtain from any Police and Community Support Officer or shortly from your local Library

If you want to suggest how the system could be improved simply either phone 0151 777 6217 or email Knowsleycommunitymessaging@merseyside.police.uk

So how did the site get here?

Well, it’s provided by Knowsley Borough Council as part of a partnership with the Police, Probation Service, Health Authorities, the Voluntary Sector, and Local Residents and Businesses.

These partnerships are known as Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships or, for short, CDRPs. They were brought into being by the 1998 Crime and Disorder Act.

So how does that work? Well the Partnership  works to reduce crime and disorder in Knowsley by:

·         Firstly finding out the level of crime and disorder problems in the various areas that make up Knowsley and consulting widely with the people of those areas that make up Knowsley to make sure that the partnerships understanding matches that of the local people.

·         Then coming up with ways and means to tackle  those problems. Its difficult to sort out all the problems at the same time so sometimes the Partnership might have to concentrate on one or two at a time. this is called prioritising.

And do you know what ? Feedback from the people of Knowsley tells us that it is working  !

Safer Knowsley Partnership Launches Retail Robbery Packs

The Safer Knowsley Partnership launched robbery packs this month for all retail premises across Knowsley, of which there are over 1000. The packs have been created as a resource to be used by retail premises in the unlikely event they are subject to a robbery.

The Pack includes:-

·        DVD – Advice for shop owners and their staff

·        Descriptive Form – To record offenders appearance

·        Self Assessment Security Form

·        Merseyside Police – Business Security Booklet

·        Hats Off Poster and Sticker

·        UV pen for property marking

Supported by Merseyside Police, a rolling programme of distribution begins this month which will eventually see all retail premises in Knowsley receiving a pack.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Green said: ‘These packs are a valuable resource for shop staff; they contain details on what a shop owner should do in the event of a business robbery, and also crime prevention advice’.

Steve Agger, Service Director for Crime and Disorder, Knowsley Council said: ‘We’re sending out a message that we are proactively supporting retail premises in Knowsley, assisting them to avoid becoming victims of crime. I’d encourage business owners and their staff to read through these free packs and keep them in a prominent place in the unfortunate event that they need them in the future’.

IT’S OFFICIAL - KNOWSLEY IS A SAFER PLACE TO DO BUSINESS.

Knowsley Business Watch is proud to say that we have been given the Safer Business Award from Action Against Business Crime (A.A.B.C.) This is a nationally recognised award and is the benchmark for business crime reduction partnerships. As far as we know, this is the first time it has been presented to a business park scheme. All previous recipients being retail parks, or town centres.

To qualify for this award organizations have to submit to an exhaustive examination of their structure and effectiveness. One of our major successes has been the reduction in burglaries on the business parks over the last three years. The current figures are the lowest for many years, thanks largely to the contributions of our members, whose vigilance has resulted in a huge reduction in the opportunities presented to criminals by noting suspicious activity and informing others.
